Damian joined P&O in 1976 as a Group Cadet and served in a wide variety of ship types.
He then moved to Overseas Containers Limited (OCL) on completion of his cadetship and served as a Deck Officer for nine years, gaining a Master certificate in 1988.
Damian transferred ashore as a Stowage Co-ordinator with P&O Containers Limited (formally OCL) and was based in London, where he managed the loading of ships in the Far East Trade Division.
In 1991 he moved to Blackpool and The Fylde College as a Lecturer.
In 1997 became the Curriculum Manager, with responsibility for the day to day operation of the School.
In May 2001 Damian was appointed Head of The School of Maritime Operations.
In December 2002 to set up DeeSea Limited, a company offering consultancy in maritime education, training and assessment.
Damian joined MARITAS Ltd as Managing Director in 2004.
Damian holds a Master (unlimited) Certificate of Competence, Certificate in Education, all the assessor/verifier and advisor awards (D32, D33, D34, D36, FD44), an Honours Degree in Teaching and Training Studies, a Diploma in Management Studies, is a member of the Chartered Management Institute, and was elected a Fellow of the Nautical Institute in 2005.
Damian has served on the executive of IAMI, the Nautical Institute Professional Development Committee, Merchant Navy Training Board working groups, Maritime Skills Alliance working group, has been involved in development and review of maritime qualifications during the last 20 years including HND Nautical Science and writing the latest MSQ units for the near coastal deck OOW to Master (tug) <3000GT pathways. He served 3 years as an SQA External Verifier and two years as External Examiner for Liverpool John Moores University maritime programmes. He currently chairs the NWA Training Group.
Damian arguably has unparalleled experience of training delivery across merchant navy, tug, fishing and workboat sectors.
